The reining community mourns the loss of Matteo Bonzano

After a long battle with cancer, 19-year-old Matteo Bonzano left us last night.

The successful young reiner collected a number of victories both in NRHA and FEI competition. He represented Italy winning the FEI individual and team gold medals in 2016 and team bronze in 2018. In 2017 he went on to conquer the World Championship Young Riders individual silver and team gold: Above all, Matteo conquered the hearts of all those that knew him. He loved reining horses, the sport of reining and was an amazing team mate, friend, sportsman.

“This is truly a difficult moment for me and for all the reining world,” said IRHA President, Roberto Cuoghi. “Matteo was a true champion and friend. He showed us all how strong he was, even in the most difficult moments of his illness. Our prayers and our thoughts go to the Bonzano family in this tragic moment.”

Our heartfelt condolences to Matteo's mother and father Clementina and Manuel, and brothers Mario and Manuele.
