Verona, November 12 —The second day of competition in Verona, Italy, where the $800,000-Added IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Futurity and Elementa/FISE Italian Championships are being held, non pro action filled the day with the $101,185-added IRHA/NRHA 4-year-old Non Pro Futurity followed by the $145,525-Added IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA 3-year-old Non Pro Futurity.

4-year-old Non Pro Futurity Qualifier

The 4-year-old Futurity was all about Lucie-Lena Egenter and Eyes Of Whiz (One Gun x Luga Whiz) owned by her mother Bettina Egenter. The duo lit up the Fieraverona arena with a powerful ride and pluses all across the scorecard. Their final score, a 218.5, topped the Level (L)4, 3, 2, and 1 divisions. “We purchased my horse in April last year from Italian Carlo Sara, who bred him, and he was then trained by Mattia Nadalini,” said the 18-year-old German rider who rides at home and also under the guidance of NRHA Professional Grischa Ludwig. “He has a wonderful personality, he’s more like a dog than a horse, and that’s what I immediately liked about him. He’s lovely to have around and is very talented.”

Both horse-and-rider talents showed immediately after the two got together. Their first major was the 2021 NRHA Germany Breeders Futurity followed by the 2022 NRHA European Futurity. “He was really good in the qualifiers at both shows but we didn’t do very well in the finals as we still had to get to know each other,” she added. “We then went on to win at the L1 and 2 as well as the Reserve Championship in L3 and 4 at the ARHA [Austrian] 4-year-old Futurity. We also did well in the qualifier at the NRHA Breeders Non Pro Futurity but in the finals, I made a few mistakes. Today he was amazing; I really trust him and he gave me all he had and once again his stops were amazing.”

Alexander Nestelberger (AUT) and Doctor Cop (NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire Shiners Voodoo Dr x Finest Copyshot), owned by Schlager & Nestelberger Partnership, scored a 215.5 placing second in the final L4, 3, and 2 divisions along with Sabine Schmid (SUI) and her own Xtra Voodoo Cocktail (Shiners Voodoo Dr x Xtra Ruby Cocktail).

In the L1 qualifier, with a 214, behind Egenter’s top score, was Camilla Orlandini (ITA) riding Alice Marinoni’s Sparkwest (Spark N Whiz x West Coast Oak).

Finals will be held on Thursday, November 17.

3-year-old Non Pro Futurity Qualifier

With 35 horse-and-rider combinations entered in the L4 division and 32 in the L3, two topped the leaderboard in the levels after performing to a 215.5 score: Austria’s Anna-Maria Zehetbauer riding Sailin Gun Dee (Mr Gun Dee x Fancy My Sail) owned by Zeidelhof Reining Horses and bred by Richard or Melanie Zehetbauer, and Matteo Capello of Italy with Alberto Capello’s Shya Shine (NRHA Million Dollar Sire Shine Chic Shine x Shyawhiz) bred by Piergiuseppe Guidetti.

Counting 37 entries, Austria’s flag flew high in the L2 division with two lady reiners: Zehetbauer and her mount Sailin Gun Dee, and Julia Gaupmann-Lechner who followed suit with a 213.5 aboard Highland Gun (Tinseltownsmokingun x ARC Ms Whiz) owned by Julia and her husband Klaus Lechner and bred by LG Quarter Horses.

Lisa Bianchi of Italy rode her CC Pale Sailin Face (NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire Pale Face Dunnit x Sailin Little Par) bred by Christian Cecini to the highest score, a 211, in the L1 division which counted 22 entries. Belgian Olivier Duhot and his KB Shes A Hustler (CJ Whiz x Pumpink Rooster) bred by Wim Delporte closed his run a half-point behind.

Riders that did not make the finals will have one more chance to earn a ticket to the Finals in the Non Pro Consolation on Tuesday 15. The Non Pro Finals will be held on Friday, November 18.
